Chance the Rapper to Host ‘Punk’d’ Revival

Megan Thee Stallion among the victims when reboot of MTV prank show arrives on streaming service Quibi

Chance the Rapper will mastermind pranks against fellow celebrities in an upcoming revival of the MTV show Punk’d.

While MTV Studios will produce the series, the Punk’d reboot will be exclusive to the upcoming streaming service Quibi, with Chance filling the prankster seat previously occupied by Ashton Kutcher.

“Punk’d is one of MTV’s most iconic franchises,” Chance the Rapper said in a statement. “I grew up watching this show, and it’s surreal to be in the driver’s seat this time around on Quibi.”

Chance’s victims have not yet been revealed, but in a teaser released Friday, the rapper torments Megan Thee Stallion with a prank involving an escaped gorilla.

The Punk’d revival’s premiere date has not yet been announced. When it does arrive, each episode of Punk’d will run 10 minutes. In addition to Punk’d, Quibi will also update the MTV dating series Singled Out for the Tinder generation, The Hollywood Reporter writes. Quibi is set to launch in April.

Bronx Universal Hip-Hop Museum Gets Major Grant From New York Governor

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo helped the nation’s first museum dedicated to hip-hop, the Bronx’s Universal Hip-Hop Museum get way closer to opening its doors last week when he granted the organization dedicated to preserving the history and culture of the genre a $3.75 million state grant. According to CNN, the archive’s temporary pop-up location at the Bronx Terminal Market will soon blossom into a building filled with memorabilia overseen by Bronx native, longtime hip-hop fan and Museum executive director Rocky Bucano.

“We knew it was important because the Bronx is where hip-hop started,” Bucano told CNN about his “ambitious, audacious dream” to find a permanent home for the eight-year-old museum. “It’s crazy to think of how hip-hop — which has such an influence on pop culture, advertising, politics — doesn’t have a place to call home.”

Among the co-founders of the Museum are such hip-hop heroes as Grand Wizzard Theodore (godfather of scratching), as well as rapper Kurtis Blow with Ice-T serving on the board of directors and Nas and LL Cool J on board as cultural ambassadors. The 50,000-square-foot Museum will open in Bronx Point in 2023, with exhibits showcasing fashion, breakdancing and the evolution of rap. In addition to offering workshops, mentorships and programming for area youth, the Museum has partnered with Microsoft and MIT to give visitors a personalized look into hip-hop using AI. Construction is slated to begin next summer.

Lil Nas X Makes Television Debut With ‘Old Town Road’ Performance On ‘Desus & Mero’

Even though Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” is enjoying a fifth week at No. 1 on the Hot 100f, the 20-year-old phenom has only performed the cowboy anthem once before Monday night (May 7), when Nas X made his television debut on Desus & Mero. The Atlanta native also sat down with the Bodega Boys for a brief interview, and then hit the manmade stage at Brooklyn’s Hometown Bar-B-Que.

“It’s amazing. Everyday is just like, okay, everything was a dream. I just did Stagecoach,” he says of his dreamlike meteoric rise, but the ATL native also makes note that he’s been pushing “Old Town Road” on social media since early 2019. “Promoting [it] for at least three months. I still do it.”

After performing his smash hit in front of the packed western-themed restaurant backed by his live band, Lil Nas returned to the bar area in his bright red jacket to rejoin Desus and Mero for a game of “Country or Nah,” where he’d give out his country stamp of approval on things like hot sauce, Nelly, suede, wizards, F-150s, and more.
